On 19 October (Saturday), starting at 17:00, a surprising and probably very exciting workshop will be held in the concert hall of the Kodály Zoltán Primary School in Nyíregyháza.
The mixed choir of the Cantemus Choir of Nyíregyháza has taken on the honour of presenting choral works by contemporary composers in a concert preceded by a few days of rehearsals conducted by the composers. The idea came from composer Bence Kutrik, who is a long-standing friend of Cantemus and who decided to entrust this special task to the team of Soma Szabó, Liszt Prize-winning conductor.
The story in brief. Bence Kutrik announced an anonymous composers’ competition for contemporary composers to write choral works. The jury chose five composers from the entries and the prize was the opportunity to have their works premiered by the Cantemus Choir in a concert, with the composers conducting their own compositions. Following the selection of the shortlist, the names of the composers, all of whom are current students of the Liszt Academy of Music, were revealed.
Mátyás Papp, Nadin Varga, László Kővári, Viola Móricz and Bianka Patrícia Tóth were the works of the students. In sixth place, an Estonian lady was also given the same opportunity, as a result of her achievement in a music academy competition last year, Rains Anna Strazdina will conduct at the concert.
So, if you’re interested in where contemporary choral music is heading, don’t miss Saturday’s concert with the Cantemus Choir, which is free of charge.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Admission to the concert is free!
